Essential Massage Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be Covered During my Massage?
Yes. You will properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Your modesty is important to us! Only the area that is being worked on will be undraped and then re-draped after it is completed.

Do I have to take off all my clothes?
No. Though most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed, here at Essential Massage we ask you to undress to your level of comfort. Your therapist will leave the room for you to undress and have you cover yourself before they re-enter the room.

What parts of my body will be massaged?
You and your therapist will discuss the desired outcome of your session. This will determine which parts of your body will require massage. Your therapist will not massage or touch on or near your genital area (male/female) or breasts (female). A typical full body session includes work on your back, arms, legs, shoulders, neck, head, hands and feet. If any of these areas bother you, you're more than welcome to request no work in that area.

Should I talk with my therapist during the massage?
You should always tell your therapist during any time of the massage that a technique is very painful or doesn't feel good. You should always tell your therapist if the pressure they are using is "too much" or "not enough". Usually a therapist will check in during the first part of the massage if it's your first time with them, so that they can adjust the pressure to your desire. No other conversation is necessary if you don't wish it to be. We would like to invite you to "listen" to your body, by not making light conversation with your therapist, but to let the therapist help you realize by their techniques and touch, where your stress and pain lies within your body.

Do I need to move during the massage?
Relax and make yourself comfortable! Your therapist will either gently move you or tell you what you need to do during your session (such as turning over, or lifting an arm).

How will I feel after the massage?
Most people feel totally relaxed...like jello! Some experience for the first time freedom from long term aches and pains developed from everyday tensions and repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience heightened awareness, increased energy, and greater productivity which can last for days! Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during the massage, it is recommended that you drink plenty of water following your massage so that the wastes and toxins can be excreted through the body.
